From Grandma's Kitchen to Waitrose Shelves at Age 16
15 March 2026
Fraser Doherty began making jam at 14 in Edinburgh using his grandmother's 100% fruit recipes. He sold jars door-to-door and at farmers' markets.
Youngest Supermarket Supplier
At 16, he pitched to Waitrose and landed a deal — becoming the youngest-ever supplier to a major UK supermarket. He dropped out of the University of Strathclyde as demand grew.
Going Global
SuperJam expanded across Tesco, Sainsbury's, and Asda, then internationally to Australia, South Korea, and Japan. He also launched tea parties for elderly people as a social enterprise.
Non-Tech Entrepreneurship
Doherty was awarded an MBE for services to business. SuperJam proves student entrepreneurship isn't just about apps — sometimes the best ideas come from your grandmother's kitchen.
