The App That's Saved 300 Million Meals From Going to Waste
12 February 2026
Too Good To Go was born from a simple observation: restaurants, bakeries, and supermarkets throw away huge amounts of perfectly good food every day. Jamie Crummie and co-founders launched the app to connect consumers with businesses selling surplus food at a discount.
The Magic Bag Concept
Users buy a "Magic Bag" of surplus food — typically worth three times what they pay — without knowing exactly what's inside. This gamification element made the app addictive while solving a real environmental problem.
Rapid European Expansion
Starting in Denmark in 2016, the app spread across Europe with remarkable speed. It resonated with both environmentally conscious consumers and businesses looking to recover costs on food that would otherwise be binned.
80 Million Users, 300 Million Meals
Too Good To Go now operates in 17 countries with over 80 million users and has saved more than 300 million meals from going to waste. The company raised over $40 million in funding. It proves that businesses can be both profitable and genuinely good for the planet.
